Lost Earbuds

solspeakWhite earbud, white snow, dark night. The snow was a powdery texture where a finger's weight would crush through the surface and create a hole immediately. I was taking off my mask because it was fogging up my glasses, and the earloop band pulled the earbud off and tossed it somewhere.
My immediate thought were these were the expensive ones. I already dropped a pill earlier today. I can't lose this too, I can't just be clumsy and waste this much money. I dug through the snow with my bare hands, which is a thing I only did once, because it was cold enough to make my fingers stiff and hard immediately. It was probably a bad idea to even try to walk a mile in the snow in the first place. There was snow in my shoes and under my coat where I stepped onto a snowbank that I thought was a sidewalk.
I try using my phone to find it and I'm within arm's reach, but I can't see it, and when I go back tomorrow it's gone.
I have enough money to replace it. It's not even that big of a deal, which is significantly better than a few months ago. I got a letter with a maximum amount I can have in my bank account, so it's not like I can even save up money for better things. But maybe I shouldn't.
